The banquet hall laid out with long tables and folding chairs before a community supper, late afternoon light coming through the high windows.
A supper laid out in the banquet hall. Evenings like this — and the heat, hydro and insurance that make them possible — are what the branch’s half of each draw pays for.
A small eastern Ontario village from above on an autumn afternoon: a stone church and spire on a two-lane main street, clapboard houses, a churchyard and maples turning colour.
Small-town eastern Ontario. Branch 370 sits in Iroquois, a village of about 1,400 on the north bank of the St. Lawrence — which is exactly why the early jackpots will be modest.

The branch's half

Branch 370's share of every 50/50 draw supports our general branch operations, including hall maintenance, veterans' support programs administered by our Service Officer, and community events.

Raffle proceeds are separate from, and are never used as, Poppy Fund donations. The Poppy Fund exists solely to support Veterans and their families and is governed by strict national rules — see our Remembrance & Poppy Fund page.

In practice, that means

  • The building. Heat, hydro, insurance, roof, furnace, kitchen equipment, the parking lot. A hall built for a bigger village costs the same to keep whether forty people or four hundred come through it.
  • Community events. Meat draws, dinners, the room the Lions Club meets in, the room the Amateur Radio Club fills once a year.
  • Veterans' support administered by our Service Officer, funded from branch general funds — distinct from, and additional to, the Poppy Trust Fund.

The one line we will not blur

Poppy Trust Funds must be held in trust at each branch and command level of the Legion. They may not be used as, or in place of, general or any other branch funds, and any use must focus on directly supporting Veterans and their families.

No raffle dollar enters that fund, and no Poppy dollar funds this raffle. We have built the separation into our accounts, our internal tooling and the design of this website.

Our licence and our tax position

  • The raffle is conducted under AGCO Lottery Licence No. RAF1534821, issued 25 July 2026 to Royal Canadian Legion Branch 370 for twelve electronic 50/50 draws.
  • Branch 370 is not a CRA-registered charity. A lottery licence does not require CRA registration — eligibility rests on a charitable mandate assessed by the licensing authority — so no charitable tax receipt can be issued for a ticket.
  • Every dollar is accounted for in the branch's books, and the raffle account is reconciled separately from the Poppy Trust Fund.
